MEMBERSHIP REPORT At last night's FOP meeting, it was reported that our total membership has reached 2116 members, with 1227 of those being active New Orleans Police Department officers. At last week's budget hearings before the City Council Budget Committee, Superintendent Riley stated the total commissioned strength of NOPD stood at 1526. That means there are only 299 New Orleans police officers who do not belong to the Fraternal Order of Police. If you happen to work with one of the 299, take a minute to explain the benefits of FOP membership. Lets all work to get everybody on board. Remember, there is strength in numbers.
Our remaining membership is made up of 752 retired NOPD officers, 71 active law enforcement officers from outside agencies, 35 NOPD Reserve police officers (associate members), 12 Honorary members, and 19 terminated NOPD officers whose membership will be carried for two years to assure their civil service rights are protected. HEALTH INSURANCE
We have received numerous inquiries from members concerning the City of New Orleans health insurance plans. This morning, an email was sent to Ms. Carolyn Stringer of the City's Insurance Division seeking information on proposed increases to member contributions and co-payments. We also asked for assurances that benefits would not be cut, and reminded Ms. Stringer that our retired members have not received a Cost of Living Adjustment in many years. Assistant CAO Courtney Bagneris was copied on that email.
Information will be passed along to members as soon as a response is received.
